Why is Urban church starting it’s new series “A Sexual Revolution” in the fall? After all, it’s taboo…it’s controversial…we can’t talk about sex in church, right?
Well, the world is talking about it. People are talking about it at work, the bars and with their friends…and the advice they are getting is disturbing.
One woman whom my husband spoke with explained that she didn’t believe monogamy was possible. Her father is a polytheist sex therapist who raised her to believe that all men cheat. She explained she has never been in a relationship where the man didn’t cheat on her. My husband told her that he waited to have sex until marriage, refuses to look at pornography, and when he thinks of sex - he only things about his wife. That’s the way God intended it! She was astonished, had never heard of anything like it and admitted that even though she was always raised to believe it was okay, there was something inside of her that knew it was wrong.
When we first got married someone told us, “Just wait three years, you won’t be having sex anymore.”
We heard from another person, “Just give it a year, then you’ll be cheating on her. Every man cheats.”
One girl told me, “I let my husband look at pornography. It bothers me, but that’s just the way guys are.”
Those comments are just as shocking today as they were then. They don’t know our amazing God. His Grace has enabled us to have a strong, healthy, marriage and sex life. It grieves me to see others who have settled and believed the lie of the enemy that it is not possible. I am excited for our church to talk about what the Bible says about sex (The Bible talks about sex? It sure does!). People are deeply hurting over issues relating to sex and relationships, but the good news is John 8:32 declares: “And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.”
People have believed a lot of lies, and those lies have caused them pain. It’s time for God’s people to start speaking up about the truth. People need to know there is another option - a better plan that leads to joy, life and freedom!
